This is the 40th post on The Disinfectant Project. I am marking the occasion with a series of recent photos taken with my film camera (Canon-AE1 using Dubblefilm’s ‘Bubblegum’ tinted 200-speed film for those interested!) alongside some thought patches about life at this time. By the way, thank you.
Candy-coloured feelings
Swimming splashing
Pink blue drops flying
Taking seed
Purple blooming
In front of me.
I was born in a small town
Now I live in metropolis
Spectrum of colour, the biggest there is
Over time I have grown
Hair curly straight wavy frizz
Ascents descents a life to cherish.
I was a dancer once
Now my knees hurt
Aches behind a young front
Spine straightened out
Feet pointed, shoulders down
It’s yesterday now.
Peering out cautiously
Breathing slow-steady
Recklessness behind me
Slowly inching forward
Two feet on the floor
At last I want more.
The endless miles mock me
We said goodbye as planned
I made a heart with my hands
Yet sorrow was no softer
When I expected its pangs
My love defies seas and lands.
I walked through the common
Showers, water dripping through leaves
Then on the open field
The sky cleared
Suddenly it was a different earth
It was fragrant, it was free.
I love being a woman
I scale new heights
Standing up straight
In a world ruthlessly rife
With degradation, but I
Won’t let them degrade my life.
The sun appeared and branded the great blue
Shining down on the 1st of June
The 1st of ten thousand suns
And just as many moons
We witness this earth at the speed of light
Yet in life, it could not be too soon.
A persistent winter, a sudden summer
We didn’t have spring this year
Yesterday clouded, today clear
As I gaze around this gifted earth
I sense a new and unusual fear
That I may be too happy
That I don’t know what to do
With a joy this sincere.
