41. A Kaleidoscopic Milestone

12/06/2021

This is the 40th post on The Disinfectant Project. I am marking the occasion with a series of recent photos taken with my film camera (Canon-AE1 using Dubblefilm’s ‘Bubblegum’ tinted 200-speed film for those interested!) alongside some thought patches about life at this time. By the way, thank you

Candy-coloured feelings

Swimming splashing

Pink blue drops flying

Taking seed

Purple blooming

In front of me.

I was born in a small town

Now I live in metropolis

Spectrum of colour, the biggest there is

Over time I have grown

Hair curly straight wavy frizz

Ascents descents a life to cherish.

I was a dancer onceNow my knees hurtAches behind a young frontSpine straightened outFeet pointed, shoulders downIt’s yesterday now.

I was a dancer once

Now my knees hurt

Aches behind a young front

Spine straightened out

Feet pointed, shoulders down

It’s yesterday now.

Peering out cautiouslyBreathing slow-steadyRecklessness behind meSlowly inching forwardTwo feet on the floorAt last I want more.

Peering out cautiously

Breathing slow-steady

Recklessness behind me

Slowly inching forward

Two feet on the floor

At last I want more.

The endless miles mock meWe said goodbye as plannedI made a heart with my handsYet sorrow was no softerWhen I expected its pangsMy love defies seas and lands.

The endless miles mock me

We said goodbye as planned

I made a heart with my hands

Yet sorrow was no softer

When I expected its pangs

My love defies seas and lands.

I walked through the commonShowers, water dripping through leavesThen on the open fieldThe sky clearedSuddenly it was a different earthIt was fragrant, it was free.

I walked through the common

Showers, water dripping through leaves

Then on the open field

The sky cleared

Suddenly it was a different earth

It was fragrant, it was free.

I love being a womanI scale new heights Standing up straight In a world ruthlessly rifeWith degradation, but I Won’t let them degrade my life.

I love being a woman

I scale new heights

Standing up straight

In a world ruthlessly rife

With degradation, but I

Won’t let them degrade my life.

The sun appeared and branded the great blueShining down on the 1st of JuneThe 1st of ten thousand sunsAnd just as many moonsWe witness this earth at the speed of lightYet in life, it could not be too soon.

The sun appeared and branded the great blue

Shining down on the 1st of June

The 1st of ten thousand suns

And just as many moons

We witness this earth at the speed of light

Yet in life, it could not be too soon.

A persistent winter, a sudden summerWe didn’t have spring this yearYesterday clouded, today clearAs I gaze around this gifted earthI sense a new and unusual fear That I may be too happyThat I don’t know what to doWith a joy this sincere.

A persistent winter, a sudden summer

We didn’t have spring this year

Yesterday clouded, today clear

As I gaze around this gifted earth

I sense a new and unusual fear

That I may be too happy

That I don’t know what to do

With a joy this sincere.
